  3. Rising Up • The main topic is dealing with the issue of being prepared to adapt to whatever may come before you in your daily life.

  4. Taking It On • Regardless to which situation it may be, preteens are going to be confronted with situations where they will have to make mature decisions to cross each path they meet. • We want them to see, from this novel, that it is important to take on assignments or life experiences by rising up to the occasion rather than running from a challenge. • This pertains mainly to social life and its challenges rather than academics or self.

  5. Why? • Children, especially preteens, come across challenges every day. Some are faced with more extreme situations than others, but all need to be prepared for those, at the least mentally. • We want to help the children’s development skills move along even faster than they do on their own so they can rise and complete different challenges in their lives.

  6. Assignments • Throughout the time of reading the novel, we will put together a collection of assignments that can mix together as well as complete separately. • They will consist of reading in class, educational games/strategies, and discussion. • After all assignments are completed, and in the right way, we will host a tea party where the kids can dress up as their favorite character from the novel and represent that character.
