  1. Left to right starting at the top: Jack, Bernardo, Bryan, Ryan, Kyle, Purple lion, Katey, Will, Zach, Jillian, Nate, Peace, Kendall, Jack, Katey, Gillian and Sami, Ally, Bernardo, Gillian and Josh, Will, Bryan, Kendall, Bernardo and Jack and Gill, The Green lion, and Zach.

  2. Love, life, and laughter GMM’s exclusive Interview with the star of the new movie that comes out next month: Gillian Mak

  3. This is me, my sister Sami, and Maura who is my dad’s girlfriend. GMM: So Gillian What is your favorite part of the movie? Gillian: I absolutely loved filming the sleepover scene with Katey. It was so much like real life (messing around, pigging out, dancing to music, reading, and IMing each other in the same room. I just really loved that it was so much like what we actually do. GMM: Sounds like fun. Was there anything you didn’t like filming? Gillian: I didn’t like filming the dramatic scenes. There were a bunch and it took forever! Will and Bernardo kept making me laugh so it was really hard to be all.. “LEAVE ME ALONE!!” GMM: What is one thing you could tell us about yourself that would give us a hint to the film? Gillian: (laughs) Well…I am REALLY klutzy! GMM: So you have a dog named Rudder. Who plays him in the movie? Gillian: Well we have LOTS of puppies playing him while he aged in the movie. Most of the crew took them home when the movie was done. Rudder plays his adult self though. This scene was VERY funny!! My sister Sami and I were practicing our “WHAT?!!?” faces. Good times! My other sister, Kendall, and I before the party scene. Me at the first camping trip.

  4. GMM: What is one thing you could tell us that happens in the movie. Gillian: Well the movie is true. It IS my life. One thing that happens in the movie is Gillian (me) singing in the car to the radio while my little sister plays air guitar. When Katey and I wrote the movie we knew we would have to put that in. Kendall does it every time we drive to the Kung Fu school. Its really funny! GMM: Any other fun things that happened on set? Gillian: Well.. Every year we go camping with the Kung Fu school, so we had to put that in. Will, Bernardo, Jack, and Bryan got to reenact this epic fail of a “prank” that they tried to play on my sister and I a few years ago. It was even funnier the second time! GMM: Can you tell us anymore about that? Gillian: (laughs again) I could… but I won’t. Its funnier when you can see it for yourself. GMM: OK.Then can you tell us about the soundtrack? Gillian: Sure! I love all the songs on the soundtrack! They have been my favorites forever! There is Unwritten, Smile, Wonder, and Breakaway to name a few songs on it. GMM: what was the coolest part of being on set? Gillian: The coolest part of being on set was hanging out with my friends. All of us (except Katey and I) have gone to separate schools forever. It was just cool to be around my friends so much for 6 months! Left to right starting at the top Jack, Will, Bernardo, me, Stephen, and Bryan Uhhh… I can’t really describe this. We were cold. And camera shy. Kung Fu competition. Bernardo, Jack, me Family picture 07.

  5. Mom, Mark, and Kendall. Kendall and I Katey and I got to the Photoshop!! Now everything is purple! GASP! This is the soccer ball scene. Bryan is the one in the far back aiming for the soccer ball. I'm the only girl. Will’s wearing white, Kyle is in the brown, and Bernardo is wearing purple GMM: Is it true you sang on the album? Gillian: No way! They wanted me to, but I got my little sister to instead. I play guitar, she sings. She has much more talent at that then I do. The scene for this part is really sweet and cute. The ‘sisterness’ between us comes out more clearly then when we are arguing or making fun of each other. GMM: Any other fun things happen? Gillian: Well… I got hit in the face by a soccer ball… 29 times. I think my friends were purposely messing up that scene so we had to do it a billion times. Darn Bernardo for not blocking it in real life. He was so close to getting it to! OH! And Bryan is totally evil for doing that in the first place! (he hit me, Bernardo, and Will all with the same soccer ball on the same day.) I always knew she would end up behind bars… 

My favorite website: www.picnik.com My favorite everyday essential: Smiles! My favorite thing to drink: Hot chocolate or tea

  10. What’s in a name? My name is Gillian Makenna Mak. Gillian after Gillian Anderson of the X-files which was my mom and dad’s favorite show. Makenna originally was going to be my first name, but my grandmother didn’t like it. Mak means Wheat in Chinese. My Yea Yea (grandfather) took my first name and used the sounds to find out what it means in Chinese. Gillian means much gold. My parents liked Gillian because it was very feminine but not very common. My mom says she liked my name because it was unique, but not to unique. She also liked how it was spelled and that it was kept a secret until I was born.

  11. My favorite place on earth My favorite place on Earth is the Kung Fu school. It is my home away from home and the place I spend the most time at. The school itself smells like incense and sweat with a mixture of Chinese herbal medicines mixed in. The thing I like best about the school is how everyone acts like you are family. Everyone takes care of each other and cares about how you are doing. In the training hall there is a mural the students painted for Sifu when he was out of town. It is of the temple at Shalion. I think this shows how much we care for our Sifu. Outside of the school. This is the lobby. They sell all kids of things there. This is the alter we use to pay respects to our martial arts ancestors.

  12. Bethany Hamilton Bethany Hamilton was only fourteen when a shark bit her, taking away her arm and a big part of her surfboard and leaving her with a changed life. At first she thought her surfing career was over. She told her dad she wanted to be the best surf photographer in the world. But in the next week she was already thinking about trying to surf again. To make a long story short, she tried to surf again and had numerous coaches help her. Nowadays she is still surfing in competitions. Sometimes it is a little harder for her to surf because she cannot paddle with her arms; she has to use her legs also. It is also harder to stand up on the board, but she doesn’t let that stop her. Bethany is my hero because she never gave up on her goal. She is very modest and she always tells people to follow their dreams and go with what God has in store for you. Her autobiography Soul Surfer is very inspirational and it tells her story very well. Something she said in her book that stuck with me was the story about a blind psychologist. She had told him that she would pay for him to see again. He declined. At the time she didn’t understand but now, she says that she wouldn’t have her arm back now even if she could. To quote her “It took Kai, a blind man, to open my eyes.”

  13. My favorite memory • My favorite memory is the Kung Fu camping trip this year. I get so much time with my friends during these and we get a lot of freedom at the campsite. • The teenagers have to take care of the fire, and watch the little kids. Its so awesome. Bernardo, Jack, Bryan and I went out on the canoe and had fun. Bernardo and Bryan got stuck paddling so we were just making fu of them the entire time. So much fun!
