  1. Administrator Integrity By Bill Magnuson EDAD 630 – Intro to Personnel Administration

  2. "The supreme quality for a leader is unquestionable integrity."  -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

  3. Integrityis defined as: • adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. • Aka – your moral compass

  4. Reasons why administrators are fired: • Pulled down the warm up pants down of a girls basketball player in public and she did not have on her basketball shorts (Harrison County School District – Gulfport, MS) • For suspending an autistic young man for running onto the football field at half time of a football game wearing a banana suit (the principal resigned – Colonial Forge High School - Stafford, VA) • Giving preferential treatment to your own child (Cheerleaders gone wild – McKinney North – Dallas, TX) • For taking furniture from the district (Palm Beach County, FL) • For texting inappropriate things to a 22 year old using a district cell phone (Lake Forest Middle School – Lake Forest, IL)

  5. More reasons why administrators are fired: • Using school funds to buy books that they have authored (DeKalb County Schools – Stone Mountain, GA) • For not following the directives of the superintendent (Indianapolis, IN) • Cheating on standardized tests (Atlanta, GA and Houston, TX) 44 out of 56 schools in Atlanta cheated on tests. • Low test scores (Seattle, WA and Central Falls, RI fired the entire staff of 93) • Assistant Principal fired for allegedly not working well with other staff, despite those same staff members saying the allegations aren't true. (Principal vs. Assistant Principal – Pieora, IL) • Principals fired for doing the right thing (The Cartel – movie)

  6. Important Considerations About Integrity • A good leader must act with integrity at all times. • Individual integrity is never easy.  If it were, we would all have high levels of integrity at all times.  At times, maintaining your integrity may be the most difficult thing you do. • One important aspect of integrity is the concept of virtue.  There will be times when the pressures of your position may tempt you to compromise your integrity.  Succumbing to these temptations will always damage your integrity.  Loyalty and trust from both those who follow you and those who lead you must be your ultimate goal. • Honesty is paramount.  • The bottom line is that no one is above the law.  If you claim to support the guidelines and procedures set in place at your school, then you must follow them regardless of whether you are on school property or not.

  7. A quote from Mr. Erich Martens, principal at SRRHS “Like teaching, human resource management is a combination of science and art and the key is to know what to use in each situation. It is so very difficult because nothing is ever black or white, everything is gray.”

  8. Vince Lombardi quote “You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time.” Follow your moral compass. Lead and teach with INTEGRITY!
