  1. Building safer neighbourhoods together FOSSE COMMUNITY FORUM September 2010 Rugby Rural Central Safer Neighbourhood Team Contact number: 01788 541111 Acting Sergeant Nik Walpole

  2. Building safer neighbourhoods together • Rugby Rural North SNT • A/Sgt 1959 Nik Walpole • PC 1879 Cree • PCSO 6233 Collyer • PCSO 6152 Sharon Bailie DATE:16/09/10

  3. Building safer neighbourhoods together Priority 1 At the last Community Forum it was highlighted that vehicles are speeding between Easenhall and Harborough Pava ( Rugby Road/Easenhall Road ) We pledged to visit the area a minimum 8 times during the last 3 months. We have carried out checks at the location on 12 separate occasions and have checked approximately 284 vehicles with the speed gun. All of the vehicles did not exceed the 50mph speed limit that runs along that stretch of road. On several occasions members of the public did come out and speak to officers whilst they were carrying out the checks. No fixed penalty notices were issued to any motorists for speeding during this time. As it was a 50mph limit, it was difficult for drivers to attain that speed after the bridge and the turn prior to the 30mph limit. DATE:16/09/10

  4. Building safer neighbourhoods together Priority 2 Acquisitive crime in the Shilton industrial estate area. Officers pledged to patrol the estate a minimum of 15 times during the following 3 months. In total the area has been actively patrolled on 32 separate occasions during the last 3 months, by SNT officers, reactive officers, dog handlers and PCSO’s. Intelligence has been gathered from a number of stops of persons and vehicles. A few highlights are as follows: On 18th June, whilst officers were patrolling they came across 2 suspicious vehicles, a skip lorry and known criminals from Coventry. It was believed that a burglary was planned using the skip lorry. This was prevented due to the diligent patrols of the dog handler. On 28th June, a male was stopped and received a street caution for possession of cannabis. On 13th July, a safe was recovered from the undergrowth which related to a burglary in Nuneaton. On 14th July PCSO’s erected Rural Watch signs on the estate. Since June there have been very few – only 6 - incidents of burglary / theft / vehicle related crime on the estate. DATE:16/09/10

  5. Building safer neighbourhoods together Priority 3 The regular patrolling of Rural public house during the World Cup. During the recent FIFA World Cup officers paid particular attention to the rural public houses to prevent any disorder during matches. This paid dividend as there were no particular incidents of disorder at any of the rural public houses. DATE:16/09/10

  6. Building safer neighbourhoods together Ongoing SNT Actions • During the recent FIFA World Cup officers paid particular attention to Rural Public Houses to ensure that no serious disorder took place. • In recent months officers have been engaged in several Force operations, notably the Bulldog Bash and Global Gathering. • In August officers from the Rural SNT undertook an alcohol test purchase operation in which several Rural off licences were visited to see which sold to underage youths. Of the 9 that were visited, 2 actually sold alcohol, both of which were on the central SNT, at Wolston and Binley Woods. This resulted in the issue of £80.00 fixed penalty notices to the staff members who served the alcohol. No premises on the North SNT sold alcohol.. • As part of the ongoing casualty reduction operation within Warwickshire Police we have been actively patrolling the A423 Oxford Road. Whilst patrolling we are looking for Speeding, traffic offences and general driver education. All to try and reduce casualties on our roads. DATE: 23/11/2009

  7. Building safer neighbourhoods together Incidents of Note from June 10 • The charging of a male from Lawford in relation to harassment of a female from the Monks Kirby area. • A burglary of the Axe and Compass at Wolvey has resulted in the identification of a male from outside the county, who may be responsible for several other burglaries. • On 13th August 3 males were arrested on suspicion of Attempt Burglary at Mobbswood Farm, Ansty. • On Sunday 22nd August 2010 the Warwickshire Police ANPR unit were parked on the A426 and have seized 9 vehicles for not having any insurance or an MOT. One male was arrested for possession of cannabis and one male was arrested for driving a vehicle without a valid licence. This also incorporated Operation Harrowsmith, carried out by the Special Constabulary. Which related to vehicle spot checks. • On 15th September 3 x British practice bombs were found in a house at Pailton. This resulted in the calling of the Army EOD team and they were successfully removed from the area. DATE: 16/09/2010

  9. Building safer neighbourhoods together Current Trends In recent times there has been an increase in the theft of Catalytic converters throughout the Rugby and surrounding areas. This has also been linked into the theft of scrap metal, both from farms and residential properties. As part of the continued casualty reduction strategy, it may be worth adopting a particular road to carry out traffic stops, speed checks and general patrol to assist our partners at the road safety unit. The organisation is going through a transition of change at the moment and it is unclear as to how policing will be in the future. However our Chief Constable, Mr Bristow states” “….the public of Warwickshire needs all members of our workforce to deliver their full contribution to delivering protection today and to be helping to shape the delivery of protection tomorrow..” With this in mind we shall still deliver our protection to our communities. 01/09/2010

  10. Building safer neighbourhoods together • Suggested Priorities. • The adoption of Rugby Road, Wolvey as our “priority road” to help reduce causalities on the road. • How – regular patrols, stop checks etc monitored by police related taskings. • Measure – amount of vehicles, reduction in casualties and vehicle related offences. The use of speed gun to reduce speeding offenders. • Reduction in scrap metal thefts / catalytic converters • How – regular patrols of area highlighting any sites / farmland whereby scrap maybe stolen. Stops of vehicles linked to scrap metal merchants • Measure – recording of details when people are stopped / visited. • Help reduce the amount of Acquisitive crime on the corridor of the Fosse ( Stretton / Brinklow ) • How – more reassurance patrols day and night to prevent thefts • Measure - regular patrols, visits, Mobile police station visits on days. Utilising our partner agencies such as WCC, CSP and Highways. 16/09/2010
