  2. What historical events led to Kaiser centers? The historical event that led to the development of the Kaiser centers was WWII. During WWII women who worked on shipyards, often had to leave their kids at the daycare to be watched.

  3. ..Continued • To maintain a profit and meet war product dead lines, the Kaiser effort funded through the U.S Maritime Commission, established 24 hr child centers. • Many African Americans were very uncomfortable leaving their children to white teachers; a lot of services were “available to white only.” • At the end of the war the Kaiser Centers were dismantled; California is the only state where publically funded centers continued after the war.

  4. What services are offered? • Comprehensive preventive care services • Primary and specialty care • Medical office visits • Vision care • Prescriptive medicines • Mental health services and hospitalization

  5. Who gets in? • Children who are between the ages of 0-19 are eligible to get in the daycare. • Any child who has a parent with low income is also eligible to get in.
