  2. Bake • To cook in the oven by dry heat

  6. Chill • To refrigerate food until it is cold

  7. Combine • To mix two or more ingredients together

  8. Cream • To combine sugar and shortening until soft and smooth • Use electric mixer

  9. Chop • To use a French chefs knife and cut into small pieces

  10. Cube • To cut into pieces that are the same size

  11. Dice • To cut into very small cubes

  12. Glaze • To coat with a thin sugar syrup

  13. Grease • To coat food or pan with oil or grease

  14. Knead • Work dough with hands

  15. Level • To even off a measuring cup with a straight edge spatula

  16. Mix • To combine two or more ingredients

  17. Mince • To chop into very small pieces (as small as possible)

  18. Peel • To pull off the outer covering of a fruit or vegetable

  19. Press • To pack or push down on a mixture

  20. Preheat • To heat the oven to the baking temperature • Before putting food in oven

  21. Puree • Grind fruits and vegetables into a soft paste • Usually done with blender

  28. Simmer • To heat a liquid just before it boils. Bubbles start to rise to the top but does not break the surface

  29. Toss • To tumble a mixture very lightly with a spoon and fork

  30. Drain • To remove excess liquids from a food

  31. Garnish • To decorate a food or dish with small colorful food.
