  1. A Prayer NotebookIntroduction The Manner of Regular Prayer as Taught by Our Praying Lord Jesus and What It Means to the Christian

  2. Introduction • Jesus taught prayer as a purposeful habit of life, not a ritual of vain repetition as it has become by the cosmopolitan world of nominal Christianity. • This model of prayer has dignity, purpose, structure, and most significant of all, simplicity. • This model provides content that will enable an unlimited period for the most intense and personal prayers that can be offered.

  3. The Primary Prayer Principles • Adoration -- Hallowed be Your Name • Anticipation – Your Kingdom Come • Submission – Your Will Be Done . . . • Petition – Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread • Confession – Forgive Us Our Debts . . . • Resolution – Lead Us Not into Temptation . . .

  4. The Divine Order of Prayer • God-focused Praying • His Character • His Kingdom • His Disposition • Prayer For Personal Human Concerns • My Needs, “Day-by-Day” • My Sanctification • Proper Relationships – Forgiveness & Restoration • Proper Maintenance – Resolution to Oppose Sinfulness

  5. The Progressive Aspect 1,2,3 • A Focus on Worship (Hallowing God’s Name) DRAMATICALLY Impacts the Remainder of Our Praying • A Preparation for Service (in His Kingdom) Is Not Desired by Human Flesh; Worship Broadens Our View of It • A Submissive Attitude (Toward God’s Will) Is Unnatural and Not Easily Attained; Worship Eases the Approach

  6. The Progressive Aspect 4,5,6 • The Normal Focus of Praying (Give Us) Becomes Less Selfish (Wants) After God-Focused Praying (Needs) • The GREATEST HINDRANCE of Life, Unconfessed Sin, Can Be Regularly Resolved • The Power and Help of God to Resist Sin and Error Can Operate More Freely Instead of Being Omitted (Last Prayer Principle)

  7. A Closer Look (1of6) • Adoration – Setting apart God in Prayer is done in Two Ways • Acknowledging Character of God • Acknowledging Works of God • Anticipation – Looking for and Preparing for It: • a. Salvation -assurance • b. Evangelization -win lost souls • c. Progression -(fertilization) disciple a convert • d. Occupation -occupy (do business) 'until He comes' • e. Expectation -look, yearn for His coming.

  8. A Closer Look (2of6) • Submission – A Chief Scriptural PassageColossians 1:9-12ff • a. Be Filled with the Knowledge of His Will • b. Walk Worthy of the Lord • c. Giving Thanksv12 • d. Deciding GOD'S WILL 1)Mate 2)Church/ School 3)Ministry 4)House 5)Vocation • e. Presentation to God, v22 1)Holy 2) Blameless 3)Above Reproach

  9. A Closer Look (3of6) • Petition – What to Really Ask For • Keys to Success 1)Spirit-controlled mind 2)Death to the Flesh 3)Balance in Redeeming Time • Elements of Life 1) Spiritual Purity 2) Physical Control [-food -sleep -exercise -sex] 3)Mental/ Emotional right thinking. 4) Social favor 5)Financial Stewardship

  10. A Closer Look (4of6) • Confession – Has Two Major Components • Beatitudes Mat 5:3-10[‘attitudes’ which ought to ‘be’] 1)poor in spirit 2)mourn 3)meekness 4)hunger and thirst for right 5)merciful 6)pure in heart 7)peacemakers 8)persecuted • Confession 1)Confess 2)Forsake 3)Believe 4)Forgiveness 5)Cleansing 6)Blessed • THIS FIRST OF TWO PRINCIPLES IS BASIC TO THE OVERALL ‘DOCTRINE OF SANCTIFICATION’ which keeps the believer’s relationship to Christ pure. Resolution completes this doctrine…

  11. A Closer Look (5of6) • Resolution – And Lead Us Not into Temptation... • a. Endure Temptation • b. Preservation Through Grace • ...But Deliver Us From Evil. Ephesians 6:10-18 • c. Protection Through Armor 1)Belt of Truth v14 2)Breastplate of Righteousness v14 3)Shoes of Gospel Witness v15 4)Shield of Faith v16 5)Helmet of Salvation v17 6)Sword of the Spirit v17 7)Bond of Prayer v18

  12. A Closer Look (6of6) • Concluding the Prayer • Are the words, • For Yours is the kingdom • and the power • and the glory forever. • Amen • These words could form another Principle of prayer, but are best and most simply considered a return to the worship of Principle 1, Hallowing God’s Name.

  13. Final Introductory Remarks • A Prayer Notebook is a gem for your life. • It can bring out the best and most valuable essence of your life. • A Prayer Notebook is a tool to increase your faith in God, the object of your praying. • It is using the means God has given to communicate with Him. • It deepens the intellectual, the emotional, and the spiritual intimacy you can develop with God.
