  1. APGrid PMA: Stauts Yoshio Tanaka (yoshio.tanaka@aist.go.jp) Grid Technology Research Center, AIST, Japan

  2. India ApGrid: Asia Pacific Partnership for Grid Computing • Open community for Grid researchers in Asia Pacific • ApGrid can be • A meeting point for all Grid researchers in Asia-Pacific • A communication channel to the GGF, and other grid communities • A pool for finding international project partners

  3. Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly • NSF-funded project lead by UCSD/SDSC. • 1st workshop was held in March 2002. • Establish sustained collaborations and advance the use of the Grid technologies for applications. • Expected outcomes: • Advance scientific applications • Increase productive and effective use of the grid by researchers and scientists in the Pacific Rim • Increase interoperability of grid middleware in Pacific Rim and throughout the world Tightly collaborating with ApGrid. Having workshops 2~3 times a year.

  4. 言語と文字 Testbed in Asia Pacific – unique features – • Truly (naturally) multi national/political/institutional VO beyond boundaries • Not an application-dedicated testbed – general platform • Diversity of languages, culture, policy, interests, … • Grid BYO – Grass roots approach • Each institution contributes his resources for sharing • Not a single source funded for the development • Physical resources • Most contributed resources are small-scale clusters • Networking is there, however the bandwidth is not enough • We can • have experiences on running international VO • verify the feasibility of this approach for the testbed development

  5. Grids in Asia Pacific • Architecture, technology • Based on GT2 • Allow multiple CAs • Build MDS Tree • Grid middleware/tools from Asia Pacific • Ninf-G (GridRPC programming) • Nimrod-G (parametric modeling system) • SCMSWeb (resource monitoring) • Grid Data Farm (Grid File System), etc. • Status • 22 organizations (10 countries) • 23 clusters (1688 CPUs)

  6. globus globus globus globus globus globus globus globus globus CA CA CA CA CA CA CA CA CA Grass-roots Approach (strategy) ApGrid GIIS • Assumption • Each institution has installed GT2 • Necessary steps • Gather and exchange trusted CA info. and trust with each other • Configure MDS to build an ApGrid MDS tree • For application use • Install additional software in project-basis

  7. Status and problems • Most participating organizations have less interests in Security • Many participants are application people • Not enough human resources working on security • Satisfy in using Globus Simple CA without providing CP/CPS • This would be acceptable inside AP for experimental use. • potential/ongoing collaboration with US and EUe.g.: • AIST/Japan – TeraGrid • KISTI/Korea – PPDG and iVDGL • ASCC/Taiwan – LCG • … • Need to launch production level CAs

  8. APGrid PMA: Asia Pacific Grid PMA • General Policy Management Authority in Asia Pacific • Launched on June 1st, 2004 • Defines minimum CA requirements • APGrid PMA approved that we accept two levels of CA: • Experimental-level CA • Alternative of the Globus CA • Can be trusted within A-P communities • Production-level CA • Strict management is necessary • Expected to be trusted by international communities • KISTI GRID CA and AIST GRID CA has been approved as a production level CA • ASGC CA are under reviewing their CP/CPS (expected to be approved shortly) • Australia has a plan to launch a new production-level CA

  9. Questions (examples) • Can TeraGrid trust AIST GRID CA? • How is the procedure for reviewing? • Do AIST GRID CA need to be reviewed by individual organizations (NCSA, PSC, SDSC, …)? • If KISTI GRID CA wish to be trusted by TeraGrid, is separate review necessary? • Can DOEGrid PMA be responsible? • Can APGrid PMA help? • Can ApGrid/PRAGMA trust TeraGrid CA? • How is the procedure for reviewing? • Do ApGrid/PRAGMA need to review all CAs (NCSA, PSC, SDSC, etc.)? • Can APGrid PMA be responsible? • Can DOEGrid PMA help? • KEK/Japan may launch a new CA. • Do the CA need to be reviewed by EUGrid PMA? • Can APGrid PMA help? • How do we keep consistency of CP/CPS? • Recently, Academia Sinica revised the CP/CPS
