  10. We found ourselves faced with 3 problems Local Primary hospital had a desire to train and evaluate their OB staff using simulation. They did not have the resources or staff to complete this on their own. tWCCC recognized a need to remain clinically accurateand to demonstrate curricular infusion. Both parties recognized the advantage of sharing human capital, material resources and expertise. 3 1 2

  11. Solution Work together! • WCCC developed a simulation scenario to evaluate identified hospital staff performance according to standard protocols. The College provided simulation staff and high fidelity simulator. • Hospital provided content expertise and guidelines. The hopsital also provided equipment and space for use during the scenario.

  13. History of partnership Working together for the OB Skills day 2010 2010 Yearly Process Communicate with hospital education departemnt to determine current need and focus. Develop simulation, program, record vocals, create running guide, and set up list. Determine participants which have included nurses, patient care technicians, doctors, physician assistants, residents, nurse practitioners, and students 3 Postpartum Hemorrhage and Assessment of Newborn 1 2011 Amniotic Fluid Embolism and Meconium Aspiration 2 2012 Postpartum Hemorrhage and Assessment of Newborn WCCC, 2013

Mutual benefits • Improving patient care Hospital College • Provided opportunity to test out scenarios in actual clinical setting, • Provided access for students to interact with full interdisciplinary team, • Reinforced necessary updates to maintain clinical accuracy, and • Showcased depth of nursing program curriculum. • Did not need to train or hire internal simulation experts, • Scenarios customized to staff needs, • Allowed for consistent evaluation of mandated competency, and • Provided a mechanism to identify gaps in care. Feedback from experience • Physicians valued competency based practice in inserting umbilical lines in NewB. • Physicians repeated technique to improve performance time. • Experienced nurses shared reality of previous clinical situations. • Newly hired nurses were introduced to uncommon clinical complications. • Managers appreciated the ability to observe and advance staff performance. • Students recognized importance of team work in clinical critical thinking situations.
