Midwest Writing Center • Incorporated in Iowa in 1980 • 501 (c) 3 Not-for-profit Corporation • 15 Active Member Board of Directors • Located in Rock Island District in 2002 • Moved to condo loft office in Bucktown Center for the Arts downtown Davenport in 2005 • Mission Driven • The only nonprofit organization in the Quad Cities that devotes 100% of our time and money to literary arts programming

  4. How we accomplish our mission • Provide a Professional Library for Writers

  5. How we accomplish our mission • Offer workshops in many writing genres for all ages

  6. How we accomplish our mission • Offer open readings at least monthly

  7. How we accomplish our mission • Host local writing groups

  8. How we accomplish our mission • Host book signings for local authors

  9. How we accomplish our mission • Host nationally known authors

  10. How we accomplish our mission • Host the David R. Collins Writers’ Conference

  11. How we accomplish our mission • Offer the Young Emerging Writers Summer Internship Program

  17. How we accomplish our mission • Spent nearly $11,000 last year to hire local artists/writers to teach and provide design services

  18. How do we do all of this? • Annual Funding-memberships, Birdies for Charity, Tuition, Grants, Gifts, Sponsorships • Good fiscal practices • Volunteers! Over 4,500 hours logged last year. • MWC  spends 87% of our budget on our literary arts programs and services and 13% on fundraising and administrative fees.  • Endowment Fund • Use local vendors whenever possible
