  1. Lice/ Nits • Lice are parasitic insects • Hundreds of millions cases worldwide • Lice do not jump or fly from host to host. • Cannot be transited through animals • May be transferred by person to person with direct contact (i.e. - caps, combs, sheets, etc).

Head lice • Most common • Gray-white color • 2-3 mm in length • Lives up to a month • 6-12 million people in the United States cases per year • Lives on host • Body lice • Associated with poverty, overcrowding, and poor hygiene • Larger than head lice • Lives clothing, etc. and moves to host to feed • Public lice (Crabs) • Transmitted by intimate and/or sexual contact
