  1. Transformation of Energy Vocab

  2. Energy • the ability to cause change

  3. Mechanical Energy • Energy of motion AND position (sum of the potential and kinetic energy of an object)

  4. Kinetic Energy • energy of movement as a result of speed and mass.

  5. Energy Transfer • the same form of energy being passed from one object to another

  6. Energy Transformation • energy changing from one form to another form

  7. Law of Conservation of Energy • Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed

  8. Energy Chain • displays the flow of energy through a system

  9. Friction • A force present when two objects come into contact

  10. Thermal Energy • The total K.E. of the molecules in a substance

  11. Heat • The movement of thermal energy from one place to another

  12. Temperature • the average K.E. of the molecules of a substance.

  13. Particle Model • Shows the effects on molecules due to the increase or decrease of energy.

  14. Conduction • heat energy transfer through solids

  15. Convection • the transfer of heat energy through liquids and gases

  16. Radiation • the transfer of heat energy through space

  17. Wave • disturbances that transfer energy without moving matter

  18. Frequency • The time between two wave crests

  19. Amplitude • The distance from crest to trough

  20. Wavelength • The distance between wave crests

  21. Mechanical Wave • waves that need matter to transfer energy

  22. Transverse Wave • a wave that travels perpendicular to the disturbance

  23. Longitudinal Wave • awave that moves parallel to the disturbance

  24. Sound Waves/Sound Energy • Mechanical waves that transfer energy to your air and are converted to “noises” in your brain

  25. Electromagnetic Wave • waves that do not need matter to transfer energy

  26. Some Examples of Energy
