  1. Persuasive Writing Take a Stance 5th Grade!

  2. What is a Persuasive Essay? Persuasive essays discuss an issue It is the writer’s job to express an opinion Through the expression of their opinion, the writer will support their stance with solid details and examples!

  3. Paragraph 1 First sentence- HOOK! (one sentence) Give an opinion-Do you agree or disagree? (one or two sentences) Briefly list your three reasons- (about two sentences)

  4. Paragraph 2, 3 & 4 First sentence, Main point: Example- Cats are easy to look after. Second sentence, Minor point 1: They are very independent. Third Sentence, Minor point 2: Cats are very clean and hygienic. Fourth Sentence, Minor point 3: Cats are very intelligent. Your last sentence should be a transition to the next paragraph to help keep reading smooth.

  5. Conclusion Finish off with a conclusion (last sentence). Restate each of your points. Offer a solution to the problem or a compromise. End the whole paper with a very well written sentence. Make it something that they won't easily forget.

  6. This is your opportunity to speak up on a topic that you believe strongly in!
