  2. College Application: Getting Started • Research and apply to 3-5 schools So many college search options out there: Big Future, ACT Profile, My College Options to name a few. • Rank schools in order of importance

  3. College Night • College Night Thursday, October 12th, 2017 6:00pm-8:30pm Champion Forest Baptist Church

  4. College Applications/ONLINE • Texas public 4-year colleges: www.applytexas.org Many opened applications August 1st • Use the Fall 2018 application for undergraduates • Follow instructions and PROOFREAD before you hit “submit” • Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!

  5. Other Applications • Out-of-state? Visit the college’s website • Private? Visit the college’s website • 2-year? Visit the college’s website • Can’t find it? See your counselor • Selective/Private: www.commonapp.org Some Texas private schools use ApplyTexas: (Baylor, DBU, HBU, Schreiner, Southwestern, U of Dallas, TCU)

College Testing • SAT www.collegeboard.com • ACT www.act.org **Do a Google search on the differences because the SAT has changed** • Colleges MAY still accept the old SAT but may not allow you to match scores between the old and the new. • Check out your SAT scores that you took here in the Spring of 2017 through your SAT account.

  7. SAT Updates • Students will be prompted to provide a photograph during SAT registration. This photo will appear on the Admission Ticket. • An Admission Ticket will be required for entry to the test center. This is in addition to the existing requirement that students present an acceptable form of photo ID. • Changes to test center, test date or test type (SAT to SAT Subject Tests™ or vice-versa) will not be allowed on test day.Students who wish to make registration changes must do so by the published late registration deadline for the desired test date. • Standby testing will not be available.

  9. Grade Point Average (GPA) • Preliminary Rank and GPA • Distributed in July • This is the one you use to apply to colleges • Final Rank and GPA • Distributed in February

  11. Letters of Recommendation • Must be submitted to each person from whom you request a letter—2 week advance notice • Submit with a cover letter/written request and any special instructions/forms. • Include your resume • Include an addressed, stamped envelope so they can mail it

  12. ESSAY(S) • Does your school require an essay? • Write a rough draft. • Ask for input from parents. • Ask English teacher to edit. • THANK YOU TO YOUR EDITOR & RECOMMENDATION LETTER WRITERS!

Financial Aid • Loans: you pay back/must qualify • Grants: you do not pay back/must qualify • Work Study—employment through the university/must qualify • www.fafsa.ed.gov- apply OCTOBER 1st (NEW DATE!) • FAFSA ID – Create your FAFSA ID now so you are ready to get started October 1st .
