  3. Sexual activity in last 2 years • 32% of women over 50 report having sex • 85% of women over 50 having sex report sex with a husband only • 76% of men over 50 report having sex • 80% of men having sex report sex with wife only

  4. HIV Positive Adults 50+ • 40% of women, 35% of men never tested prior • 50% of men, 75% of women are NOT on ART • 12% of men, 29% of women report condom use at last sex • 38% of HIV positive men report 2+ partners in the last 2 years • Risk for infecting others

  5. HIV Negative Adults 50+ • 1% of women and men knew last sexual partner’s HIV status • 4% of men and 1% of women used a condom at last sex • 20% of men’s last sexual partner was under 50 • 20% of women believe their last sexual partner was having sex with someone else • At risk for contracting HIV

  6. Conclusion • Older adults have high prevalence in rural South Africa • Older adults are at risk of acquiring HIV through sex • HIV education, testing, and treatment programs need to be designed for older adults
