  3. “All-Star School Lunch” Theme • NSLW 09 will help students learn about the importance of eating healthy and being active • The NBA inspired campaign features 5 “basketball teams” each comprised of healthy school lunch menu items and coached by a current or former NBA/ WNBA player • The “teams” reinforce the concept of eating a balanced school lunch • The campaign runs from Aug 09 to Oct 09, culminating during NSLW, Oct12-16

Draft Your All-Star School Lunch Team Contest • Students will have the opportunity to draft and name their very own All-Star Team, while explaining why their team helps makes them an all-star • Open to students nationwide (Grades 1-12) • 4 national winners (2 online, 2 cafeteria contest) will receive a prize pack • The contests will run August 1, 2009 to October 16, 2009, and national entries (paper format only) are due to SNA by October 30, 2009 • 2 Ways to enter: Online or cafeteria contest For full contest rules and more info, visit www.schoolnutrition.org/allstar

Draft Your All-Star School Lunch Team Contest - Online • Students enter their team at www.allstarschoollunch.org • 2 national winning entries will be chosen from the online entries • Winning entries will be displayed at www.allstarschoollunch.org and in School Nutrition • NOTE: Online entry is only available to students over the age of 13 For full contest rules and more info, visit www.schoolnutrition.org/allstar

Draft Your All-Star School LunchTeam Contest – Cafeteria Entry How it works • Students (Grades 1-12) can enter • They complete the student entry form by picking their All-Star team and explaining why it will make them an All-Star For full contest rules and more info, visit www.schoolnutrition.org/allstar

Draft Your All-Star School LunchTeam Contest – Cafeteria Entry 2 levels of judging 1) Local judging (school level) • Consider judging local contest by grade level and perhaps giving small prizes • A maximum of 3 winners per school can be sent to SNA headquarters for national judging • SNA will not accept submission directly from students.   12. Team Trading Cards • Students can download each “team’s” trading card complete with photos of the famous honorary coach. • The back of the card features nutrition “stats” and information. • The trading cards are a great nutrition education tool in the cafeteria or to take home to parents.

Ideas for Our Schools • Serve each team menu once a week • Create a “Draft Your Own All-Star Team” Contest Day for each grade • Work with Gym teachers to help promote the basketball and activity theme • Hold assemblies on being an “All-Star” • Hold a basketball or bracket tournament • Create costumes for kids or staff

  23. Ideas for Our Schools • Create an “All-Star” celebration day and invite the media to attend. What would our celebration day include? • How can we use this campaign to drive awareness of the message of healthy school meals and correct misperceptions about school lunch? • How can we involve students, parents, teachers and administrators?
