At the 11th Global Conference on Ageing, Mayor Motomu Hozumi highlighted Akita City’s proactive approach to addressing the unique challenges posed by winter for its aging population. With over one-third of residents aged 65 and above, Akita City faces significant hurdles such as transportation, fall risks, snow removal, and social isolation. Innovative solutions like the 100-Yen Coin Bus, snow-melting sidewalks, all-weather pedestrian areas, and community activity programs are designed to ensure seniors maintain their mobility and connectivity throughout the winter months, fostering a more age-friendly environment.
