Communication to Students ATTENTION STUDENTS: NEW TEACHING EVALUATION FORM President Alexander and the CSULB Academic Senate approved a new Student Evaluation of Teaching Policy and Form effective Fall 2012. The new form is called “Student Perceptions of Teaching” or SPOT. Please take your time reading the new items and response options – they are very different from the old form. Your feedback on SPOT will be used in the evaluation of faculty and accurate responses to the items are necessary. All courses may not be evaluated, but all classes that are evaluated will use the new SPOT form. READ EACH ITEM AND RESPONSE OPTION CAREFFULLY!

OLD/New Items • Old Item 8: • Rate the Overall Teaching Effectiveness of this Instructor in this Course. • NEW Item (#5) • The instructor was effective teaching the subject matter in this course. • Campus Means • Typically, the campus mean on item 8 ranged from 4.3-4.4 (standard deviations slightly under 1.0) on a five-point scale. • The campus mean on item 5 for Fall 2012 is 5.3 (on a six-point scale) and the standard deviation is 1.2.
