  3. About ENERGY STAR The ENERGY STAR mark ranks among the highest level of influence on product purchase among all consumer emblems, similar in ranking to the Good Housekeeping Seal.

ENERGY STAR Sales Value Consumer awareness and desire for efficiency savings is high. • In 2007, more than 70% of households nationwide recognized the ENERGY STAR label. • Of households that purchased ENERGY STAR products in the past year: • More than 70% of them reported the label as influential to their purchasing decision. • More than 80% of them reported they are likely to recommend ENERGY STAR products to friends. • In 2007 alone, Americans—with the help of ENERGY STAR—saved $16 billion on their energy bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the annual emissions of 27 million vehicles. ENERGY STAR Qualified Home Electronics • Set-top boxes • Digital-to-Analog converters • Home audio equipment • Cordless telephones • ENERGY STAR qualified home electronics products include: • Televisions • VCRs • DVD players • Digital video recorders • Many home electronics use energy even when they are turned off, as they draw power to support various features like clock displays, channel settings, or remote control functions. Qualified home electronics feature power management settings that save energy when in the standby/off mode. Some qualified home electronics save energy in both the on and standby/off modes.

  6. ENERGY STAR Qualified Televisions Did You Know? If all TVs sold in the U.S. met the new ENERGY STAR requirements, we’d save about $1 billion annually in energy costs. In November 2008, a new, more stringent ENERGY STAR specification for televisions will become effective. ENERGY STAR qualified TVs will be: Up to 30% more efficient than conventional models Available in a variety of today’s screen technologies and sizes ENERGY STAR TV criteria: Save energy inboth On and Standby/Off modes

  7. ENERGY STAR DTA criteria: Meets energy-efficiency guidelines forboth On and Sleep modes. Must be shipped with a default Auto-Power Down setting that automatically switches from the On mode to the Sleep mode after a period of inactivity (4 hours or less). ENERGY STARQualified DTAs What is a DTA? A digital-to-analog (DTA) converter box is a device that converts digital television broadcast signals to analog signals.

  8. As consumers buy more home electronics, they can look to ENERGY STAR to maximize energy efficiency. Consider: Americans are watching more hours of TV per day making active power consumption even more important. Each U.S. household has an average of 2.8 televisions. Some of the new large screen televisions consume as much electricity as a new refrigerator. Why Buy ENERGY STAR?

  9. The typical household spends more than $2,000 a year on energy bills. With ENERGY STAR, you can save more than 30%, or about $700 annually. Today’s TVs, when combined with related products like DVD players and set-top boxes, make up about 10% of a household’s annual electricity bill. ENERGY STAR qualified products use less energy and cost less to operate resulting in: Saving Energy = Saving Money

  10. FACT: By using less energy, qualified home electronics help reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by burning fossil fuels at power plants. If every TV sold in the U.S. met the new ENERGY STAR requirements, Americans would prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to about 1 million cars. Saving Energy Helps Protect the Environment
