  1. The study of heredity or the passing of traits from one organism to it’s offspring Genetics! Created by Miss Vellone for Mrs. Cannistraci’s Science

  2. Types of Reproduction Sexual Asexual • RequiresTwoParents • Ideal for changing environmental conditions • Everyone is different because we get traits from both parents, so if conditions would change certain people would still survive. • Requires One Parent • Ideal for when environmental conditions stay the same • Everyone would be a clone of the other, so if conditions changed, no one is different, so no one would survive.

  3. KEY DEFINITIONS!

  4. TRAIT • A characteristic about an organism Acquired Traits – something you learn Inherited Traits-Something you were born with

  5. Gene • Found in the nucleus and determine the traits

  6. AlleleFound in the genes and are written in pairs Dominant • the more POWERFUL allele • Written in CAPITAL LETTERS!....AA Recessive • the weaker or masked allele • Written in lower case letters!.... aa

  7. Ph Geno physical genetic enotype type • Describes traits that you see. • The makeup Genotypes are genes that are not seen; they are represented by CAPITAL and lowercase letters • Heterozygous- the alleles are different • Aa • Homozygous- the alleles are the same • AA or aa

  8. Offspring • The Baby!
