  2. Principles of Heredity Heredity is the transmission of parents’ character traits to their offspring.

  3. Crossbreeding A pure line is a group of individuals of the same species, which, for a specific character trait, produces only offspring with the same trait, without variation.

  4. Crossbreeding Crossbreeding is the exchange of gametes between two different individuals during sexual reproduction.

  6. Hybrid • A hybrid is an individual obtained by the crossbreeding of two genetically different individuals. • A generation is a group of individuals descended from common parents.

  7. An allele is a possible form of a gene. Different alleles have different nucleotide sequences.

  10. Genotype vs. Phenotype • A genotype is an individual’s genetic inheritance (all alleles). • A phenotype is the expression of the genotype (expressed allele).
