  19. Hazardous Waste definition Below are a few of the many intricacies of the EPA’s definition of HW: Chemicals are not considered “waste” while in use. Therefore they cannot be HW. Just because a bottle is “empty” in your eyes does not mean it’s “EPA empty.” Even if there is a small amount of liquid in the container, you may be required to treat the entire container as HW. Depending on how a certain chemical is used, recycled, emptied, etc. it may or may not be considered a HW. What is Haz Waste?   44. IMFT has two different types of HW Storage areas: 90 Day Accumulation Area Satellite Accumulation Area Used to accumulate waste close to chemical use area until container is full. Once the container is full it must go to a 90 Day Accumulation Area. Waste in a 90 day accumulation area must be shipped off site prior to 90 days of storage (regardless of how full the actual container is).
