Origin • Originally bred by farmers in Middle Tennessee, to travel around their plantations (aka Plantation Walkers) • The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders & Exhibitors Association formed in 1935 • In 1885, Black Allen (aka Allan F-1) was born and was became the foundation sire. (Standardbred/Morgan Cross)

  4. Breed Confirmation • Pretty head with medium to small, well-placed ears • The neck ties high into a long sloping shoulder • The top line is strong and short and the hip is long and sloping • The underline is long in relation to the top line, allowing for greater length of stride

Gaits of the Tennessee walker • 3 distinctive gaits • Flat footed walk • Brisk, long-reaching walk that can cover from four to eight miles an hour • This is a four cornered gait with each of the horse's feet hitting the ground separately at regular intervals • Running Walk • Same as the flat walk with noticeable difference in speed • 10 to 20 miles per hour at this gait
