Reminder • New Commission Regulation on education statistics adopted in February 2011 and applicable from 2012 (data due by end 09&11/2012) • Need to revise it: • New ISCED • New policy needs (esp. Learning Mobility HE) • Streamline/rationalise data requests Eurostat Working Group Education and Training Statistics - Luxembourg

Guiding principles for the revised Regulation • Focus on EU needs Additional data needed by OECD will not be included Additional data needed at national level may be collected in addition, at national level • Prioritise / Rationalize needs New data requirements to be balanced by removal of other existing requirements Eurostat Working Group Education and Training Statistics - Luxembourg

Preparation of the revised Regulation • Revised Regulation to be applicable from 2014 This was agreed by ETS WG in May 2011 & endorsed by DSS in September 2011 • Education statistics = joint data collection with OECD & UNESCO, therefore consultation • Education: High on the EU policy agenda, therefore intensive DG EACconsultation Eurostat Working Group Education and Training Statistics - Luxembourg

Preparation of the revised Regulation • Discussion with Member States: - Through ISCED Workshop in 2011, WG ETS in 2011 & 2012 (June), OECD meetings • First draft: 20 July 2012 • DSS consultation on 21 September 2012 • Second draft: 5 October (+31 October) • Third draft: outcome of the 8 November 2012 meeting • Next steps: DSS; ESSC in 2013 Eurostat Working Group Education and Training Statistics - Luxembourg
