Without an evaluation, a speech is a waste! • Evaluation is not as difficult as you think!!
Myth no.1 : I’m not qualified to be an evaluator!!!! • No project level requirement at all. • You don’t need to master all the speaking skill before you take the evaluation role. • Everyone has his/her unique point of view.
Myths no.2: I can’t think of a single point to evaluate!!! • What are the 2 major elements of Evaluation? - Good points - Bad points/ room for improvement / suggestions Intuition = Immediate feeling Feel it. Describe it. Give reason.
Feeling: I get lost in the speech! I even don’t understand the speech! • Feeling : Uncomfortable! Discriminated! Bored!
Myths no.3: I can’t formulate a 2.5 mins evaluation speech in such a short time!!! • Cut them into pieces Opening : 15 seconds Good pt.1 : 30 seconds Good pt. 2 : 30 seconds Room for improvement 1: 30 seconds Room for improvement 2: 30 seconds Conclusion : 15 seconds 2.5 minutes
Myths no.4 : I don’t know how to Express my Feeling! • Choice of words: (for good point) In PC Speech, • I like the most is…. • I enjoy the most is………/ the most enjoyable part is… • Impressed me the most is…/ the most impressive part is…. • I appreciate the most is… • I was touched / moved by…. • XXX is the very thing captured my attention… • XXXX is very attractive/ appealing to me….
Choice of words: (for room for improvement) • It would be better if …. • You may consider… • I would suggest….. • I would challenge you on….. • An alternative way for you to consider is…. Practice!
Feel it! See it ! Hear it! • Give a reason. • Give Suggestion. Useful Tips • Review the speech project objectives. • Talk with the speaker to find out which skills or techniques the speaker hopes to strengthen through the speech.
