The Palace of Westminster The Palace of Westminster ( English : Palace of Westminster) , also known as the Houses of Parliament ( Houses of Parliament ) , is the place where sit the House of Commons and House of Lords in the United Kingdom. The palace bordering the north bank of the River Thames and is in the London Borough of Westminster .
