  2. HY-1B Chinese ocean monitoring satellite HY-1B was launched April 11, 2007. Images are released daily now. Data will be free, but need to apply, then via FPT to access. 2007,8.1

HY-2 series satellite • Objects: • Global Ocean Wind Field monitor and Service for • Ocean Environment Forecast • Global Ocean Topography Data, Sea Level and Gravity Field monitor and its Application • Wave Field monitoring and Reduce Disaster • All weather Sea Surface monitor and forecast the El Niño • Sea Ice monitoring

  6. HY-2 progress • Project approved in Feb. 2007; • Project officially started in April 2007; • Launch date is determined: 2009. The Schedule of Chinese Ocean Satellites

  7. SOA’s new ocean data assimilation system SOA’s National Marine Environmental Forecast Center (NMEFC) will start an operational ocean analysis system later August, 2007. The main features of system are Domain: Tropic Pacific Input data: altimetry, XBT and Argo Data assimilation scheme: 3DVAR, multivariate (T and S) OGCM: 1 by 2 degree and 14 layers Product: 3D T, S, U, V; period: 2001-now Availability of the product: will be available soon from internet ThisNMEFC operation system was originally developed by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy. Through a two-year phase of transit, NMEFC and IAP collaborated and put it into operation.
