Before 1838, Sadhus (Saints) from both the Akshadas used to take the holy dip in Trimbakeshwar. Then a clash took place between them, and after that on the request of Peshwa ruler, Shaivasadhus started performing rituals at Trimbakeshwar and Vaishnavs moved to Ramakunda in Nasik.
