What is a classifier? • Sets of categories of classifiers can serve as nouns, adjectives and predicates.
CLASSIFIERS AS NOUNS • HUMAN (CL:V) • ANIMALS, PLANTS (CL:BENT V) • NON-LIVING OBJECTS (CL:A, CL:3) ENTITY CLASSIFIERS • Note:You must sign WHAT the noun is first before the classifier for that noun can be used!! • Ex: MAN CL-1 (walking quickly)
ENTITY CLASSIFERSNOUNS ONLY----NO ACTION • Persons • Objects—small and large • Structures **They provide information about the size and shape of entities (living or non-living) SASS classifiers
The Handle Classifier PREDICATE-VERB-ACTION HAPPENS • Manipulative: hand is showing the act of doing something to an object. The hand will change its grip to fit the size and shape of the object being held. • Depictive:the hands become the object.
