  4. IIK: Indigenous Culture Two other specific lesson plans dealing specifically with aboriginal culture: Ethnic Diversity Symbols of Aboriginal (Grandmother’s Dreamcatcher) Culture (D is for Drum)

IIK: Indigenous Culture Integrated thematic unit mini-project • Identification of influential ethnic groups in Manitoba(e.g. Aboriginals, French, Métis, Ukrainians, Hiddenites, etc.) • Base-requirements – Cultural Information log, reading log, word wall, goal setting, etc. • Add-on assignments – Heroes, food, recreation, “map it out”, interview an expert, etc. • Summative presentation – group presentation in selected form (PowerPoint, skit, display, etc.)

IIK: Indigenous Culture • IIK as flexible & adaptable resource • IIK as a resource kit for integrated thematic unit • Focus on Aboriginal and Métis, but also includes/relates to numerous other cultural groups in Manitoba • Numerous transferrable themes • Self-concept • Pride • Identity • History • Story-telling
