An honest appraisal + • Catch-all Basic Assistance approach is too broad • Few funders will support basic assistance for long • Surviving is not as lasting or impactful as Thriving • Our approach has been reactive rather than proactive • Program structure has been piecemeal – not coherent • We are not measuring the change in people’s lives

  9. What is needed? A new approach . . . Moving from helping families survive . . . to Empowering families to THRIVE!

  11. Family Empowerment Empowerment, to us, means . . . Providing tools and opportunities, allowing people to express their inherent abilities and overcome barriers to realizing their dreams and full potential.

  12. Why an Empowerment Center? • Space is a limiting factor. More = More options • Own space = more control and flexibility • Opportunities for partnerships and volunteerism • Drop-in model = greater access & client support • Childcare = access for parents of little ones • Space = more interactions = more impact

  13. What will we do differently? We will provide families and the community with a coherent package of programs and services that hone in on the key areas of family growth and development with a longer-term, goal-driven approach. Home School Work Community
