  3. History • Opened it’s doors in 1911 in Chicago Heights, IL with a 50 bed facility • 1926 it doubles in size to 132 beds • 1960 an addition was added bringing the bed total to 250 • 1965 the original structure was raised and after the remodeling the hospital had 188 total beds

  4. History • 1977 Cancer Care Center opened • By 1984 the hospital encompassed a square block and had grown to a total bed size of 231 • In January of 2000 St. James acquired the Olympia Fields site increasing the number of beds to over 350 for the two campuses combined

  5. History • Since the merger, the hospital has added a Heart and Vascular Institute, Comprehensive Cancer Institute, and Health and Wellness Institute • Presently St. James is a two-campus healthcare delivery system that today serves a population of more than 550,000 in the far south suburbs of Chicago

  8. Clinical Hospital Highlights • Non-for profit hospital • Combined acute bed total between the two campuses of 351 and growing • Level I trauma center at Olympia Fields campus • Primary teaching hospital for medical student, interns, and residents from Midwestern University

  9. Clinical Hospital Highlights • Diabetes Center • Covers all aspects of diabetes education • Runs clinical trials on new and upcoming medications • Staff includes Registered dietitians and nurses that are also CDE’s, podiatrist, endocrinologists, and a counselor to meet the patients needs

  10. Clinical Hospital Highlights • Heart and Vascular Wellness Center • Provides everything from prevention/early detection to open heart surgery • Cardiac rehab • Education classes

  11. Clinical Hospital Highlights • Comprehensive Cancer Center • Dietitian sees patients on Wednesdays • Covers all aspects of care from early detection to chemo to radiation • Comprehensive Breast Health Program
