  1. Welcome to Mrs. Thompson’s 4th Grade Class

  2. All About Me I am a Dallas girl, graduated from Richardson High School. Became an Aggie (Whoop!) Class of ‘96. Taught in 6th grade in Richardson for 10 years. This is my 7th year at UP I have been married to Mark for 12 years and we have two four-legged children, Emmitt and Junie B. I just recently earned my Masters Degree from Lamar University: Technology Leadership

  3. Fourth Grade Curriculum • What to Teach? Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) • How to Teach? *Differentiate to match learning styles *Mini-Lessons *Whole-class/small groups *Projects • Habitat Project - October • Ancestor Project - November • Texas ABC

  4. Homework • Spelling – Weekly assignments, Test each Friday • Math – daily (except Friday) • Reading – 30 minutes per night • Assignment Book – Completed daily in class for you to check at home.

  5. Homework Expectations • Math: Show work to receive full credit • Spelling: Study as needed • Reading: 30 minutes minimum each night and Reading Log filled out.

  6. Student Responsibilities • On-time class attendance • Planners filled out daily • Returning completed homework • Good behavior choices • Materials ready • Turning in class work in a timely manner • Several library books • Clean and organized desks and lockers

  7. Class Agreementsand Rewards • Agreements ~Mutual Respect ~Be Prepared ~Active Listening ~Put-Ups! • Rewards ~Class Dojo ~Smart Cookie ~ Table Points

  8. How Parents Can Support Responsible Behavior • Find safe place for school items • Decide best time to work on homework • Arrive to school on time • Check planner regularly • Review work as it comes • Encourage them to READ, READ, READ!! • Encourage them to practice multiplication facts

  9. Field Trips and Class Parties • Symphony/Museum: Oct. 22 • Visit MIS at the end of the year • Ancestor Celebration Feast: Tuesday, November 26, 11:30 set-up. 12:00 start • Valentine’s Party: February 14, 2:00 • End of the Year: TBA

  10. 4th Grade STAARTest Dates • Writing: April 1st and 2nd • Math: April 22nd • Reading: April 23rd

Info You Need to Know… • Parent/teacher conferences held as needed • Thursday folder with school information and graded work • Send a written excuse for all absences • Please let me know via email if your child is leaving early so I can have homework ready. • Dismissal: Students still waiting at 3:25 will go to front office to wait and/or call home.
