  1. MGMT E - 5065 Operations and Logistics Management Work Measurement andStandard Setting Homework Assignment Due October 30th

  2. Problem 1 A work operation consisting of three elements has been subjected to a stopwatch time study. The observed times (OTs) are: Job Element ‘A’ = .18 minutes Job Element ‘B’ = .68 minutes Job Element ‘C’ = .50 minutes For a particular worker, the performance ratings are: Job Element ‘A’ = 90 % Job Element ‘B’ = 110 % Job Element ‘C’ = 80 % By union contract, the allowance time for the work operation is: personal time: 5% ; delay: 5% ; fatigue: 10% REQUIREMENT: 1. Determine the standard time for this particular worker.

  3. Problem 2 • The preliminary work sample of an operation indicates the following: • Number of times the operator is observed working: 60 • Number of times the operator is observed idle: 40 • Total number of preliminary observations: 100 • REQUIREMENT: • What is the required sample size for a 99.73% confidence level • with + / - 4 % precision?

  4. Problem 3 • At Micro Manufacturing, Inc. workers press semiconductors • into predrilled slots on printed circuit boards. • The elemental motions for normal time used by the firm are • as follows: • Reach 6” for semiconductors…………………….40 TMU • Grasp the semiconductor………………………… 10 TMU • Move semiconductor to printed circuit board....30 TMU • Position semiconductor……………………………35 TMU • Press semiconductor into slots…………………..65 TMU • Move board aside……………………………………20 TMU • Each time measurement unit (TMU) is equal to .0006 minutes. • REQUIREMENT: • Determine the normal time for this operation in minutes • and in seconds.

  5. Problem 4 Ace Manufacturing Company has just observed a job in its laboratory in anticipation of releasing the job to the factory for production. The firm wants rather good accuracy for costing and labor forecasting. Specifically, it wants to provide a 99% confidence level and a cycle time that is within 3% of the true value. REQUIREMENT: 1. How many observations should it make? The data collected so far are as follows: Observation Time 1 1.7 2 1.6 3 1.4 4 1.4 5 1.4
