  4. PROJECTS Whihala • Purchase agreement • Operations • Started Memorial Day • Whiting and Hammond sides • Improvements • Several operational changes made already • Crafting a Capital Improvement Plan • Definitely part of our long term strategy

  5. PROJECTS • Museum • Committees working hard • Conceptual design • Timetable – still hoping to break ground in early 2011 • Call for artifacts

PROJECTS • Water Plant • Timing and operational issues • Switched to Hammond water for “Transitional Period” • Experiencing slight drop in normal pressures • New Hammond connection will be commissioned tomorrow – expected to boost pressure • Water Plant demo in progress • Commission entire system in August

  7. PROJECTS • Water System Improvements • Schrage Avenue alley • 117th Street • Atchison to Central • Central to Oliver in 2011 • Ohio Avenue – Detention Basin • Park Road

PROJECTS • 119th Street Redevelopment • 1532 – next to the new Memory Makers • 1413 – former Helen’s House of Fashion and future home of Studio 659 (drawing) • 1510-12 – former Whiting Plumbing and future home to Skeeter’s Diner (drawing) • 1326 – former Sherman’s Hardware and future home of ? • Overall goal and strategy

PROJECTS • Cleveland Ave. • Project back on track • Strike set us back about 1 month • Now scheduled for completion in early August • Please stop by and see the completed section near Ohio – looks great • Residential Rehabilitation Grant Program • $1.5 million in improvements expected • Strategy - Applications available

PROJECTS • New York Ave. Homes • Acquisition of 3 more buildings completed and demolitions are now scheduled • This will allow 5 more homes to be built • Working on 1 more acquisition which will allow 1 more home to be built • Additional acquisitions scheduled for 2011 will allow 2 more homes to be constructed

  11. PROJECTS • Demolitions • Cleveland Ave. Apartments – new home • 1642 Sheridan – new home • 2135 Indianapolis – abandoned and blighted • Will continue to remove unsafe structures • Paving • 117th Street west end (remaining in 2011) • Fischrupp Ave. – 116th – 128th • 8 Alleys

  12. PROJECTS • Sidewalks • Central – Oliver complete • 2011 • LaPorte • Atchison • 2600 block of White Oak and Birch • 1500 Block of 119th Parking Lot Extension • Delayed – Strike, asbestos, demos, PF • Try for 2010, but likely wait till 2011

PROJECTS • 119th Street Tree Plan • Will need to remove and replant all trees in the next 5 years • New brick paver tree grate areas installed • Will eliminate concrete lifting and safety issue • 10 trees in 2010 – continue for next 4 years • Standard Ave. – Front St. Phase 2 • Lighting and landscaping

  14. PROJECTS • WCC Improvements • Electrical Upgrade • Energy efficiency • Asbestos removal • Lobby floor • Schrage Mansion/I.C. Rectory • Partnership – several year project

PROJECTS • Acquisition of the former Mercantile/Harris Bank property – Atchison and Indianapolis • Prep for future development • Additional parking • Beautification project • Whiting-Robertsdale Economic Development Partnership • Look at the Whiting-Robertsdale area as one community – Indianapolis Blvd. focus

  16. GRANTS • The City has been awarded dozens of grants to help us pay for these type of improvements. • Since January of 2004, we have been awarded grants totaling: $31,809,395.00
