  1. Ace your Next Review 6 Steps to Exceeding Performance Expectations

  2. Understanding Your Role • In order to excel in your position you must understand your role and responsibilities • How does your position contribute to the project or business’s success. • If uncertain about the aspects of your job, seek clarification • Ask for a detailed job description for you to follow (You should ask your supervisors, but I can also provide for you.)

  3. Know the Difference between a Task and Goal • A goal, simply defined an objective within a specific period of time –intended to be strategic • A task, is a specific step within the process of a particular activity • List broad goals rather than specific, with tasks need to achieve that goal and document your objectives for the year.

  4. Goals must be relevant with reasonable “stretch” • When establishing goals, ask yourself if the goal is meaningful • Goal should be relevant to the work you do everyday. • Don’t set to many goals- this is an issue of quality, not quantity • Goals should have some “stretch” in them to require you to learn and/or do something new • Efficiency is a good area to focus on when establishing goals.

  5. View your goals as a work plan • Make your goals your mission for the year. • Keep goals current and visible, and track progress and contributions • Update your goals to reflect changes in your roles and responsibilities. • Goals are set to achieve work-based objectives, but they can also yield personal growth rewards, in professional, development, and earnings potential.

  6. Be your own Advocate • If you don’t have access to the tools or training needed to achieve an objective, be sure to ask for it. • Remember that no one pays closer attention to your work than you. • Document your accomplishments and make your boss aware of milestone accomplishments. • If you reach a stumbling block on the way, seek advice on how to best resolve the issue and continue on your path

  7. Solicit ongoing feedback • Have an open dialogue with your boss throughout the year. • Take time to check in • This is your time to take a proactive role in managing your career • Hard work will play a role in your growth
