  3. THE FIRE AND EMS PROGRAMIS A ONE YEAR PROGRAMIN THE CAREER-TECHNOLOGYSCHOOL OF THEST. MARY’S COUNTYPUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMSOME CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT A FIRE TRAINING ACADEMY TO DO PRACTICAL EXERCISES AND LIVE CONTROLLED BURNS

  4. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS • 16 Years of Age at Beginningof SchoolYear • Current Member or Become a Member ofa St. Mary’s County Fire or EMS Department • Junior or Senior Status • Parental Permission • Meet School Requirements • Transportation on Extended Days

  5. PLEASE NOTE: CADETS WILL BE RESPONDINGON FIRE APPARATUS AND AMBULANCES TO ACTUAL EMERGENCY CALLS CADETS MAYBE ASSIGNED TO FIRE AND EMS STATIONS ON SOME DAYS AS PART OF THE PROGRAM

CLASSES ANDCOLLEGE CREDITS 6 credits 3 credits 1 credit 1 credit 3 credits 2 credits 1 credit 2 credits 19 CREDITSTOTAL Emergency Medical Technician – B Fire Fighter I Hazardous Material Operations Incident Management Systems Rescue Tech Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Response to Terrorism, Basic Concepts Building Construction (2 classes) Engine Company Fire Ground Operations Fire Fighter II STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDITS, AS WELL AS, STATE AND NATIONAL CERTIFICATION FOR TRAINING COMPLETED CLASSES WILL RUN ONE HALF OF THE SCHOOL DAY SOME DAYS MAY RUN LONGER THAN THE SCHOOL DAY

  7. VALUE OF COLLEGE CREDIT • DEPENDS ON COLLEGE • COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND $2,000+ • UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE $4,000+ A STUDENT CAN RECEIVE UP TO 32 FREE CREDIT HOURS TOWARDS A DEGREE IN FIRE SCIENCE OR EMS FROM MFRI
