  1. A Certified Minority Owned Corporation

  2. Effect of the US Government Each year, the US Government purchases more than $350 billion in good and services from the private sector. • The Federal Government will contract in excess of $80 Billion to small businesses in the next fiscal year. • There are over 50 agencies, all of which have a statuary obligation to contract from small businesses over 20% of everything it buys. • There are set-aside opportunities available for women and minority owned businesses.

  3. Effect of the US Government • In 1998, the U.S. Department of Commerce released a study supporting a form a affirmative action for minority owned businesses. • This study determined procurement areas where federal agencies could apply a ten percent “price adjustment evaluation” to small disadvantaged businesses; which are defined as those owned by African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Native Americans.

  4. The Small Business Administration • The SBA has signed Memorandoms of Understanding with 25 federal agencies allowing them to contract directly with certified 8(a) firms (including MBE’s). • Recent changes permit these firms to form joint ventures and teams to bid on contracts. • Focus South is a Certified Minority Owned Enterprise. We would like to pursue a joint venture with your organization.

  5. Certified MBE Status • Focus South is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise. This means that the company has met the certification criteria established by the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

  6. Benefits of Working with a MBE • Increased Business: • Ability to bid on contracts previously open only to companies doing business with MBE components. • Most Fortune 1000 companies have Diversity Supplier Programs in place. Many will only work with companies who purchase at least 20% of the goods and services used as part of a business relationship with Certified MBE’s. • Strengthens community bonds

  7. Benefits of Working with a MBE Minority Owned Enterprises have the ability to form joint ventures and strategic partnerships! • Increased revenues due to opening of opportunities previously not available • Expansion opportunities by spreading word that they are working with MBE • Expansion of business by opening up new opportunities with existing clients • Business conducted together applies towards 20% supplier diversity model established by Fortune 1000 companies.
