  2. Types of schools ¢SUNY : The State University of New York. This is a collection of public schools that are funded by the New York state government. ¢Advantage: Large campus with many choices of study. ¢Names of some of the SUNY schools: - Albany University - Binghamton University - Stony Brook University - SUNY Purchase College - SUNY New Paltz

  3. Types of schools ¢CUNY: The City University of New York. This is a collection of public school that is funded by city government. ¢Advantage: They are easier to afford and closer to home. ¢Name of some of the CUNY colleges: - Baruch College - City College of New York - Hunter College - John Jay College of Criminal Justice - Queensborough Community College (QCC)

Types of schools ¢Private Colleges: Colleges funded by individuals. ¢Advantage: Private colleges usually have more money for opportunity programs. ¢Name of some of colleges: - Columbia University - New York University - Harvard University - Yale University - Massachusetts Institution Of Technology (MIT) - Princeton University

  5. Requirements for college application - SAT or ACT score - Personal essay - School GPA (Grade Point Average) - Teachers' recommendations - Clubs, sports, & extracurricular activities

SAT •The SAT is the standardized test that students take for college admissions in the United States. • The SAT is important, but it is not the only standard to get into a college. • There are other requirements that are just as important as SAT. • Typically, students take the SAT twice. They take it for the first time in the spring of 11th grade and in the fall of his/her 12th grade year.
