As an introduction to this unit, we are assigning an at home writing project for each student. Your child needs to write a narrative weather story, telling why that season is meaningful to them. They will then create the final copy on the attached story board paper OR your child can create a digital story board/comic strip. • The comic digital story board/comic strip must have six boxes, using the same guidelines below. Your child may use word, power point, or another software tool or they can use the links below to create the project. If this option is chosen, please print the digital project to turn in. • A grading rubric is attached for your viewing to know how this project will be graded. • An exemplary story board will contain the following: • * A creative title that identifies season choice • * Use specific content vocabulary accurately and effectively to identify weather choice through an introductory sentence (box 1) • * Provide accurate and complete support of weather choice by including 4 supporting sentences in the body that relate to the topic (ie. activities, clothing) • * Includes 6 colored illustrations that accurately represent the weather sentences • * Presents a thoughtful and complete closing sentence which includes an emotion about the weather event (box 6) • * Makes minor errors in spelling, capitalization, or punctuation, if any, that do not detract from meaning or readability • * Overall command of grade level spelling concepts and high frequency words • * Varied sentence structure • * Sequence words and transitions that guide the reader smoothly through the idea • * Uses available resources to accurately use and spell most content vocabulary • http://marvelkids.marvel.com/games/play/75/create_your_own_comic • http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/Comix/http://www.stripcreator.com/make.php
