Engineering Session Summary • Andy Nichols, STFC • MICE Collaboration Meeting, RAL, June 2009
Engineering • Electrical: • Cooler compressors – ensure access for maintenance • Hall PPS completion now October 2009 • Open question still for AFC/RFCC dump circuits • Ditto control station rack • Are racks and doors secure in magnetic field? • Are components in rack susceptible to high fields from S/C magnets? • Network requirements for step II to be defined • Ditto vac system/pumping cart controls • Electrical drawings and documentation to be defined in PDF • Proposed control station for spectrometers and cooling channel – concise technical spec to be submitted to TB
Engineering • Electrical: • 2MVA substation upgrade is a clearly a worry – design is done, but long lead time + funding uncertainty • Essential for Step III – Andy to remind CPMB (again) • Huge progress over the last year, despite cut to UK manpower • Many thanks to the Daresbury electrical and controls group!
Engineering • Mechanical & integration: • Steps I & II installation defined in detail and agreed • New requirement to keep S/C magnets cold while ‘parked’ and while moving • Not desirable to ‘wind up’ cooler compressor hoses • Third downstream Virostek disc certainly required • Not a major difficulty – seems sensible to make in UK • Wing Lau will broaden his integration remit to include PID • Wing to also take responsibility for component integration • Better control of interfaces required (better use to be made of TB) • That ball is in my court!
Engineering • Welcome to Franck Cadoux and his colleagues • Working on the EMR • Useful offline discussion this week • Visited MICE hall, understand cable routes, space envelopes and CAD interchange with RAL
