Feed your brain • Feed Your Brain is a project that brings in speakers of any kind of field to speak for students. This year FYB is focusing on catering to the business and technology minded students to further their knowledge in the fields. The last event will be right before finals week and discuss preparation and good study habits.
Goals • Our goals for the semester are to have 3 events before December. • FYB plans to have at least 20 people at each event. • This will be accomplished by skillful advertisement, and hopefully free food will be given at the events. • Another way to make our event successful is by having them at a good time that will accommodate many students.
Coding Creative • Coding creative was a lecture presented by Geo Miller. • We had 8 people in attendance. • The lecture was very insightful. Geo talked about how you can move forward in your knowledge of java and other programs on your own. • Also talk about how to manage multiple projects successfully.
Launch your own business • “Launch Your Own Business”. It was a lecture on how to start your own business. The speaker for the event was FarhoodBasiri. • Farhood talked about key thing on how to create a business. • He went over the legal side, and registrations. • He also talked about motivations in making a business and find your NITCH.
Timeline • September 21 • First meeting for FYB. Discussed upcoming event “Coding Creative”. • October 30 • Coding Creative with Geo Miller. • October 10 • Have the list of people who going to lecture, and what they will lecture about.
Timeline • October 11 • Reserve the rooms for the lecture. • October 12 • Have flyer blueprint. • October 15 • Have flyers printed. Work with group On Campus group to post up flyers for FYB events. • October 19 • Group meeting.
Timeline • November 2 • Plan for next Event • November 5 • Make sure everything is taken care of for FarhoodBasiri (2nd Speaker) event on business • November 9 • Meeting Canceled. The date for the next event was pushed back to November 27. • November 14 • Meet with On Campus to help promote our event on November 27.
Timeline • November 27 • “So you want to launch a business” by FarhoodBasiri
Evaluation of “CODING CREATIVE” • The first event that Feed Your Brain hosted was almost successful. • We wanted 20 people to attend, but only had 8 people. Room was restructured to occupy space and make Geo feel comfortable. • The topic was good, and I myself use what Geo Miller taught use about expanding our knowledge. • If free food would have been given out I think it would have been a better turn out. • Flyers were posted. It should have been more ways to advertise like going to classrooms to announce the event.
Evaluation of “Launch your own business” • Launch Your Own Business reached its target number in attendance even though it was raining. • Facebook events, and flyers was used to advertise. Mistakes where made in advertisement but was corrected when addressed. • Free food helped out. • Room selection could have been better. The entrance and exit was right in front of speaker. That caused interruptions with people coming in.
Team Work • FYB issues mainly was getting thing done together. • Meeting where cancelled due to lack of participation. • Everyone did there part to make the events a success.
Things I learned • Communication • Communication is an important part of creating a great team. If there is no communication within a group nothing will get done. It is very important to have group meeting. • Knowing Each other Strengths and Weakness • Within a group everyone knows what they are good at. To have an effective group member, there skills have to be utilize by the group.
Things I learned • Responsibility • Giving everyone responsibilities is a way to get things done on time • Schedule Meetings • Scheduling meeting is a very important. In a group meeting problems can be solved. • Work as a team • Within a group there can be people within that don’t like groups because they have less control. By having members complete assignments on time, having group meeting, and staying focus on the goal should get individuals working as a team.
