  1. Kindergarten Enrollment Agenda: PTA – Lora Schordock Principal – Kristal Leiker School Secretary – Kellie Heckerson Teachers – Laura Herrick and Kate Husted Welcome to Santa Fe Trail Elementary Class of 2027

  2. About SFT…. • We are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) and • BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) school. We have 3 guiding principles being the ABC’s of SFT: Actively Engaged, Be Safe, Caring • Our overall staff mantra is “Together We Will” • The staff focus is on kindness, competence and cohesiveness. • We have 2 classes of each grade level Kindergarten through 6th. • Specials classes: Art, Music, Library and P.E. Pizza Lunch Award

  3. Keys to Success: • We are looking to begin building a seven year partnership with you and your children. • The most important factor at this stage in development is the willingness to learn and the ability to interact in a group rather than academic skills. • Letting adults be in charge. • The meaning of “no” – reacting appropriately. • Doing things that we may not want to do - tantrums do not work . • Actions have consequences. • We teach and practice these life skills with students daily, but your help is vital to their growth in kindergarten and beyond.

  4. Well rested children do very well academically and behaviorally. • 10 – 12 hours of sleep is recommended. • More exercise and limited access to TV, video and computers before bed helps students sleep better at night. PBIS Assembly

  5. Half Day - AM (8:10–11:05) • There is no charge for half day kindergarten. • Lunch is not served, but breakfast is available. • Full Day Kindergarten (8:10–3:10) • Lunch is served and breakfast is available. • Two Kindergarten Options Halloween Party Time

  6. Differences Between Half-Day and Full-Day Programs • Both programs have the same curricular focus. The full day program offers: • more time and in-depth exploration of the curriculum. • more opportunities to practice and repeat skills. • more opportunities for extensions in curriculum. Halloween Thanksgiving

  7. SMSD Program Payment Specifics • The district will continue to provide half-day programs for all students at no charge. • Parents may choose a full-day program. The cost for the full-day program is $2,700 annually with an option to pay nine monthly installments of $300. • If the student is eligible for reduced price lunches, the cost is $810 annually with an option to pay nine monthly installments of $90. Students eligible for free lunches may attend the all day program for free. • Advance payments are required to attend the program. Dr. Seuss Kindergarten Read-In with Friends and Family

  8. Reservation Process • Access to the full-day kindergarten program will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. • Beginning tonight, March 27, 2014, parents may submit acompleted application and an enrollment form to reserve a position on the attendance list. • Each application will be date and time-stamped.

  9. Transfers • If a parent requests a transfer to a participating full-day kindergarten school, the applications will be date and time stamped but must be sent for to the district office for official approval. Currently, such transfer requests are unlikely to be approved until August 1 or later. • Transfers from out of district will be approved last, if space allows.

  12. Illnesses at School • If a student develops a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, red/draining eyes, severe sore throat or severe cough while at school a parent or guardian will be called to pick the student up. • Up to date parent contact information is very important in case of illness or emergency!
