Rethinking the Development Gap: Prioritizing Happiness Over Wealth

The development gap is often measured by economic indicators, but the true essence of progress may lie in the happiness of the population. A 2006 BBC report highlighted that 81% of the UK population believed the government's primary aim should be the creation of happiness rather than mere wealth. David Cameron, then Leader of the Opposition, stressed the importance of prioritizing general well-being (GWB) alongside Gross Domestic Product (GDP), advocating for a holistic approach to evaluating societal success.
