Value-based Recruitment • example by National Skills Academy “We are looking for Support Workers who can demonstratecompassion and empathyin their approach to caringfor older people, either through previous roles in social care or in other roles. Can you show us how you would treat our service users with the dignity and respect they have a right to expect”

  8. Effective job adverts • Activity: Using value based words and phrases begin to write an advert for a support worker. You have 10 minutes

  9. Recruitment questions • Ask questions that lead to: • How did you feel about it? • What impact did it have on you? • What did you learn from it? • Did that upset you? • How proud were you of the outcome?

  10. Value-based Interviews • Activity: Design 3 - 5 value based interview questions for a care support worker. Example: “Tell me about a time when you were sensitive or compassionate in an emotional or tense situation.” You have 15 minutes

  11. Effective interviews • Emphasis on testing for core values • Create a standardised interview pack • Same questions for all applicants • Ask questions that enable candidates to give examples of behaviours in their previous roles • Score the responses • Be clear about your expectations
