  5. 2004 Update: Financials * Marathon, Matching Donations from Corporations, United Way, 5K Run, Diwali Ball

  6. 2004 Update: Tsunami (1) • Asha's response • Working closely with Asha Chennai & project partners in India, provided immediate relief efforts & identify further rehabilitation needs • Chapter's contribution • Helping with PR & fundraising/ partnering initiatives (DoSomething.org) • Collection boxes & fundraisers in local areas (concert in Albany, bachelor/bachelorette auction in NYC, flyers at restaurants) • Funds Raised • $175K+ from 1200+ donors (Asha-wide) & online, only

  7. 2004 Update: Tsunami (2) • Plan for disbursements • Immediate relief (food, clothing, blankets, temporary shelter, medicines & health camps for emergencies and epidemics) • Long-term rehabilitation work to focus on livelihood needs for families affected (forming cooperatives & providing livelihood support such as boats, nets, etc.; support for activity centers for children & counseling support) • In addition, focus on educational needs such as the rebuilding and re-stocking of affected schools in the area • Currently, main focus is the state of Tamil Nadu • In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, local NGO identified (SEEDS) to partner with - awaiting government permits for long-term relief work

Donor Relations Program • Initiated in October 2004 (Target: Diwali Ball in Nov.) • 6 Donors ($1000+) contacted from NYC/NJ area • E-mail, followed by letter in Asha letter-head • Offered complimentary 2 tickets for Diwali Ball • 3 Donors attended the event & recognized • Momentum & volunteer-bandwidth needed to formalize • Informal target: $12K in 12 months!
