    1. Proposal to host PRAGMA-9 University of Hyderabad India

    3. Grid Services: Dream or Reality? This theme has to be seen in the light of Web Technologies and Web Services. Though the Web technology has been in existence for a decade now, the Web services have still to take of. A sustainable Grid is based on its realization and usefulness, which ultimately leads to an on-line Grid-enabled service. Theme of PRAGMA 5. As a Pragma community we should ensure that Gird technologies grow together with sustainable Grid Services; and therefore there is need to debate and discuss whether this will still be a Dream or become a Reality. Theme of PRAGMA 9.

    4. Grid Services (contd) We should examine issues that may impede deployment of Grid Services. demonstrate progress on grid applications inside PRAGMA, particularly in some typical fields, having large catchments area Banking, Insurance, Scientific etc attempt to build stable grid services for daily research enhance development of grid applications in India, and promote communication with the world

    5. Co-locating other events One possibility is to plan an IEEE event with local IEEE Section, like holding an IEEE Student Branch level symposium on GRID Computing, alongwith other Computer Societies namely IETE, CSI etc. This should give a much needed bootstrapping and create local awareness to do research in this area. The funding will come from various societies. We could coincide the above event with the next APAN Meeting in Hyderabad. Recently Educational and Research Network (ERNET India) has become a Primary Member of APAN and University of Hyderabad is one of ERNET PoP site. We could also arrange exhibition of major vendors having interest in Grid-Computing application

    6. Why Hyderabad? Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, offers a fascinating panorama of the past, with a rich blend of cultural and historical tradition spanning over 400 years. Presently a strong Industrial, Commercial and Information Technology Center, Hyderabad is emerging into an important tourist destination. Thus today Hyderabad offers a combination of a rich traditional ambience and the most modern, progressive and developed urban centre in India

    7. Contd It is a happening city which is the capital of Andhra Pradesh with 76 million population IT Industry is growing at more than 50% every year It has major global technology companies and Research Organizations such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Analogue Devices , GE, Mentor Graphics, Synopsis, BaaN, ADP Wilco, Motorola, Invensys, Computer Associates, Satyamcomputers, Infosys, Wipro, etc. Defence R&D, Indian Space Research Organization, HAL,etc., International institute of Information Technology IIIT, Indian School of Business (ISB), Univ of Hyderabad, etc. More than 220 Engineering Schools in the State of AP Well connected by air Major conferences held/proposed in the city are IJCAI 2007, IEEE TENCON likely in 2006 International Exhibition and Conference on Biotechnology Equipment and Services (2005), International Conference on High Performance Computing (2004, 2005),.

    9. University of Hyderabad UoH commits to development of grid applications and middleware, in particular those based on and aimed at scientific data. As a founding member of PRAGMA, UoH has actively participated since the 4th meeting and now aims to enhance the impact of the collaboration.

    10. Our participation was manifold: The university had opportunity to use grid infrastructure and share resources that are deployed from time to time. We participated in SC2003 demo where 853 nodes formed the testbed for Climate modeling software. This Bootstrapped our understanding of Grid Technology to a new level. It would allow us to work towards Bilateral/Multilateral collaboration among participating institutions. Lead contacts developed at: University of Melbourne (Australia), KISTI (Korea), Kasetart University (Bangkok), BII (Singapore), NCHC (Taiwan), NCSA (Urbana-Champaign, USA). Initiate exchange program in specific application of interest to us using grid based technology

    11. The Green Campus Campus 20 Kms North-West of Hyderabad 2,300 Acres with 500,000 trees and over 120 bird species. Good for Trekking, and long morning/evening walks Four lakes, several valleys and unique rock formations (Mushroom Rocks are a State Heritage) Early habitation evidenced by a megalith of iron-age, pre-Christian era (protected Archeological site)

    12. University of Hyderabad A University with Potential for Excellence -- UGC Excellent Research Performance International & National Recognition Good Infrastructure and Networking Good Developing Neighbourhood

    13. Existing Support Infra-structure Established Centre for Modelling Simulation and Design with 128 cpu IBM p690 cluster, 14 High end Workstations. Plan to augment by another 128 processors, etc. Campus Wide Gbps SMF Fibre Backbone Digital Library, e-Journal access 2Mbps link to Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, IDRBT. Video-Conferencing Facility established including ISDN. Link available for Internet Access

    17. Grid Activities in India E-Governance Network of Government of Andhra Pradesh, India Educational Grid (UGC-INFONET network) Information Grid (I-Grid) of CDAC etc A Digital Library Network under INFLIBNET (A consortium for e-journal access) Weather Forecasting Grid etc. Educational and Research Network (ERNET) India is Primary Member of APAN (January 2004)

    18. Venue & Date Centre for Modelling Simulation and Design, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India September/October 2005

    19. Others Funding: Expected Expenditure: Rs 6,19,000 Lakhs (US $ 15,000) contribution of the University and several scientific government bodies like Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) etc. Necessary paper work would be initiated once the proposal is formally agreed too. University will like to approach major HPC vendors for sponsoring the PRAGMA event, subject to Steering Committee approval. We may levy fee on non-Pragma members/institutions. We would provide local hospitality to 2 to 3 delegates from Pragma Founding Institutions. Accommodation & Facility: University or Hotel
