Rosh Hashanah • When: occurs the first and second day of Tishri • Tishri is the seventh month of the Jewish year • Two days long • Where: most of the days spent in the Synagogue • Purpose: Jewish new year • Making new resolutions • Look back on all the mistakes you have made throughout the year • Become a better person by fixing those mistakes

Rosh Hashanah • FACTS: during the Hebrew month of Yom Kippur • Gedalia is the day of fasting immediately after Rosh Hashanah • Customs: Eat food symbolizing sweetness, blessings, and abundance • Apple dipped honey • Some dip the Challah in salt not honey • Historical Background: In the New Year • Time for remembrance of faith and ancestors • In the Leviticus 23;24-25

  3. Yom Kippur lasts 1 day, but Rosh Hashanah comes before it and the time in between is ten days. A special custom on Yom Kippur is the Shofar. Historical Background • -Moses got the 10 commandments from God • -He came down from Mount Sinai and saw everyone worshipping the golden calf • - He broke the 10 commandments • (^Rosh Hashanah) • He went back up to Mount Sinai and got new ones, then told the Jews they were forgiven for their sins. • -When he came down that day was Yom Kippur, the tenth of Tishri, the seventh month in the Jewish calendar. Fun Fact On Rosh Hashana the book is opened, on Yom Kippur the book is sealed.
