Materials: Pencil or blue/black ink pen Agenda Loose-leaf paper (2 sheets torn in half) Spiral notebook Argumentative Essay Citing Support/Evidence wkst Argumentative Essay Outline
Write these Cornell Notes into your spiral notebook… Writing a Conclusion Paragraph • Summarize the main points (reasons) • Restate the claim (thesis statement) • Say something that will keep the audience thinking about the claim (thesis statement). The conclusion paragraph MUST include ALL of the following… • Give a “call to action”! (What do you want the audience to do? Make a recommendation!) • Re-state the claim (you may re-word it) • Add a funny quote or ending thought
Be a thinker!!! • On your Argumentative Essay Outline, write the evidence you found using the internet (Roman numerals IB, IIB, IIIB). • On your Argumentative Essay Outline, write your support for your claim. (Roman numerals IA, IC, IIA, IIC, IIIA, IIIC) • Add a concluding sentence for each of your reasons. • Take out 2 sheets of loose-leaf paper. Cut them in half. • Label and write each body paragraph on each of the halves. • Read notes for Introductory Paragraphs. • Write the Introductory Paragraph on Argumentative Essay Outline. TODAY!!! • Label and write “Introduction” (rough draft) on the last half sheet of loose-leaf paper. • Write conclusion on Argumentative Essay Outline. • Label and write “Conclusion” (rough draft) on a half sheet of loose-leaf paper. • Staple ALL rough draft paragraphs together.
