Great Crested Newt If you see a great crested newt, do NOT go near it or harm it. It is against the law to touch them, so leave them alone and make sure nobody else sees it. You can then report your sighting to the environment agency. DO NOT intentionally or recklessly disturb a Great Crested Newt while it is occupying a structure or place which it uses for that purpose because it is a protected animal. We can protect the great crested newt by not destroying forests, making secret sanctions for them and making sure nobody kills them or tries to harm them.
The great crested newt It’s dark grey-brown back it is covered with darker coloured spots, which make it appear black. When compared to smooth newts, it is larger and heavier, growing to a length of 15 cm. The range of the Great Crested Newt extends from great Brittan and Brittanya in the west, to across much of Europe North of the Alps and the Black Sea. They have a tail to help them swim faster and use it as a paddle.
